The Limitless Stylist vs The Capped AI Stylist…
Imagine this, you walk into a beautiful boutique studio, you are met by a hairdresser who connects with you, is caring, and is a field of knowledge on all things hair — but more than this your hairdresser, reads where you are at, they have a sense of every angle of your hair and what is needed, they read it all in a heart beat, as well as how you are doing, how life and work is going for you and much more - this is the Limitless Stylist.
So we ask you, the daunting question… “what would you love to do today?” Yet It doesn’t have to be daunting, we discuss it together, we work together to find what journey we are going to go on today. We get real, and support this next unfoldment with your style, as not everything is achievable in one appointment.
In recent times, we are receiving AI images which map out the hair. But let’s get honest, does it accurately take into consideration your hair density, porosity, or how your hair will respond in the current living conditions, ie - the beautiful humidity. Probs not. Does it take into account how you are gong to style it every day (and whether you have the time or the inclination?). Again. Probs not. Does it know about the nuances of your life and yhour hair requirements and how all of that culminates to support you or not. You get the picture. So why do we trust it over the person standing in front of you (the hairdresser). Why are we insistent that the AI robot knows what is best for you?
I am not saying it doesn’t have its bonuses, because we all make decisions differently, some people are visual, some people love the words, and others well… they just don’t care that much and go with the flow, whether its the latest colour, or the same colour they’ve had for 20 years. It actually doesn’t matter as long as YOU are happy with the final result.
But to be honest I would kind of rather someone cut out a paper photo of a haircut and pasted it on an actual photo of themselves rather than use the AI. Because at least then you would have a sense of how unreal an expectation the exercise is producing.
So what is the actual magic that happens in a consultation?
What is the science of it?
A consultation is a two way street, it is a collaboration – hairdressers ask the questions to get the responses that contribute to you walking out with your best hair ever. It’s all of the details.
I thought I would do an experiment and put my face into AI, and ask it to choose my style. I was horrified with what it chose for me, a long flat bob.. Hmm no thank you. But then finished up with praising me, making me feel good about myself and saying every reason why I should go for it. Absolutely no… AI buttering me up as well as giving me bad advice. No and no again.
AI does provide a risk-free experimentation of looks, and may give you words to share with your stylist. But did you know there is three different lengths of long bobs, there is more than 400 shades to choose from, and whilst the words may describe a look, it may not be accurate for the look you are wanting to achieve. For example: a square can be a circle if someone insists it is.
One of the big buzz terms at the moment is I want ‘a lived in blonde’ look. AI will describe a lived in blonde look as “a low maintenance hair style that blends your natural root colour with lighter mid-lengths and ends. It features a lighter ‘money piece’ around the face but requires fewer salon visits because the grow out is soft and seamless”. Sounds amazing right? The problem is, it is a convincing lie. There are many different variables that will have to be considered to achieve the ‘lived in’ look and depending on the colour of your hair it will take finesse and a few initial appointments to achieve the foundational look and blend that will work well for you.
FACT - Many people hate making decisions.
FACT - You have the power to decide what you want.
FACT - Your hairdresser is by your side to support you with these decisions.
So power up for the next hair adventure. We love communicating with our guests, and finding out what you would love for your next style, or maybe it’s a future style.
And if you want to have a more advanced, in depth consultation, then book a space online or in person prior to your appointment to discuss all things hair. Actual hair. Not Artificially Generated Hair :)
