Is your Hair Menopausal? Peri-menopause, hair thinning and cycles – the true story.
Behind the chair we get to see a lot of changes in hair, but one that is more prominent than ever is hair changes that are evident when women are going through Menopause. Yes, I said it, the M word. . . Destroying women’s lives on the daily through hair challenges and much more.
But. . .
Let’s face it, you’ve faced many challenges in your life.
This is just another minor hurdle, whilst you may not feel like you are flying high over it, more like crash tackling through it, day after day and getting nowhere near the finish line, you are not alone… ever.
What you may be experiencing.
Dry hair/wiry hair, Scalp Itchiness, Hair Thinning/Shedding, lacking shine, Reduction of elasticity causing a breakage of hair.
Sound familiar?
All of these can simply be managed through lovingly caring for the hair. As opposed to arguing with it every morning, wishing it was another way (like in your teens), or worse comparing to other women around you. Since when did any of this make us feel great?
Honestly, I get why you may be wondering why your hair is so flat, what you feel like you have lost your hair, or it lacks the shine, and it just never wants to grow.
What women have a habit of doing…
Many women stop brushing their hair, reduce their hair washes, get less haircuts, and or are scared to touch their hair (in case it falls out with more shedding). Any of this sound familiar?
Yes, it is true hair can take longer to grow back, but please don’t stop brushing it and washing it often.
Is it time to have the chop? A fresher stronger style which gives the hair volume and lift? There is always a next cycle for your hair.
What you can do to support your hair through peri-menopause
No tight pony tails; book in for a styling session if you would like support to do something different.
Consider quality haircare to support including key collections from Kerastase such as Genesis (anti-hair fall) and Chronologiste (anti-ageing/density).
Always use a heat protectant when heat styling to support the hair.
Scalp serums (Genesis Serum Anti-chute Fortifiant) support in anchoring the hair more firmly in to the follicle to prevent the bulb from popping out, and also improve the scalp health by hydrating it.
Love yourself and the body in all its phases.
Many women don’t realise that a shedding phase is a cycle, it is not forever.
In this phase the hair not only sheds but it also doesn’t grow as fast. During this phase women often panic and feel like they are losing their hair completely, that they are not as feminine, they can feel a loss of confidence and they start to feel paranoid about more hair loss and how to prevent it.
However having worked with hundreds (probably thousands of women) going through peri-menopause I can tell you that when the cycle completes the hair can (and often does) rejuvenate, so long as the woman cares for her hair health.
When women love and care for their hair - the hair responds in kind.
Many women I have worked with have found that the hair comes back thick and full after a period of shedding or hair thinning during peri-menopause – although it always comes back different than in their younger years – and this is to be celebrated.
